The main aim is to provide a professional service where a client feels safe to speak about their problems, concerns, worries or issues in a trusting, safe, non judgemental and supportive environment. This helps the client to work through their emotions/issues and begin making positive changes in their life.
The counsellors role is to use effective listening while being respectful, non judgemental, patient and empathetic to the client while they share their problems/issues. The counsellor is there to offer guidance to the client to help them use their own abilities in a focused manner to begin resolving their own problems.
Counselling also helps the client begin to fill their potential in more than just one area in their life. For example, once one problem has been resolved then it allows other areas in their life to begin to flourish. (If the issue is confidence then once the client builds a higher level of confidence then it may also help them in varying relationships.
